It’s a homeowner’s nightmare! You spotted signs of termite damage on your home.  To find out more about what termite damage looks like, see our blog post with the signs of termite damage here.  Now what?

  1. Don’t Panic – we know, it’s much easier said than done, but there are trained professionals ready to help you.
  2. Do Not Disturb Them – It seems counter intuitive, but the best thing you can do is to leave them alone until a pest control technician can help. Treatment is delivered to live termites; and if you attempt to spray them with bug killer or try to clean them up, it will make treatment more difficult. If you disturb the termites, they may retreat into their nest where it will be harder to get access to them; and the treatment may not be as successful the first time.
(Already disturbed them?) – We get it, it’s a gut reaction to try something to get rid of them, but don’t disturb them any further.  Call for an inspection as soon as possible.
  3. Contact Your local Pest Control Experts – If you live in Jacksonville, New Bern, Havelock, Morehead City, Emerald Isle, Hampstead, Beaufort, Surf City, Cape Carteret, Atlantic Beach, Swansboro, Newport, or Richlands, we're here to help! When deciding who to work with, make sure they are qualified and specifically knowledgeable about termites. Ask about their experience in dealing with termites and their accreditations. Make sure you’re dealing with a registered Pest Control Technician and Termite Inspector.

Get an Inspection – When you select a pest control company, explain what you’ve found.  They will schedule an inspection to assess the situation and determine if termites are the culprits, examine the extent of the damage, and provide you with a treatment plan.

It may not seem like it but finding the termite damage sooner rather than later is better for your home.   Now you can establish a plan to remedy the situation and preserve your investment in your home.
