Why Jacksonville Homeowners Call May Exterminating

National pest chains see your home as a service stop. We see it as a neighbor’s. Our technicians are friendly, honest, and backed by decades of experience with Eastern NC pest patterns, including the seasonal cricket surges that hit Onslow County hard each August through October.

What sets us apart is something few pest companies can offer: in-house moisture control. Camel crickets, in particular, are driven indoors by damp crawlspace conditions. Because we handle both cricket treatment and crawlspace moisture work, we can address the root conditions drawing crickets into your home rather than just treating the symptom. One local team, one call.

How We Treat Cricket Problems

Effective cricket control starts with an inspection. We identify which species are present, locate harboring sites, and note entry points before any product goes down. That groundwork shapes a treatment plan built around your specific situation.

Our approach typically covers:

Exterior Perimeter Treatment
A granular or spray barrier applied along the foundation, around windows and doors, and into mulch and landscape beds forms the first line of defense. This helps intercept crickets before they reach the structure.

Interior & Crawlspace Treatment
Crickets that have already made it inside are targeted in crawlspaces, garages, and other harboring areas. Camel and cave crickets concentrate in damp, dark spaces, so crawlspace treatment is often the highest-impact interior application we make.

Moisture Conditions
When crawlspace humidity is a contributing factor, we can recommend or perform moisture control work that can make the space less hospitable to crickets over time. Ongoing perimeter service helps keep populations from rebuilding during peak fall season.

Cricket Species Common to Eastern North Carolina

Not all crickets behave the same way, and knowing what you’re dealing with helps explain where they hide and how to treat them. Three species show up regularly in Jacksonville-area homes.

  • House crickets are tan to yellowish-brown, roughly three-quarters to seven-eighths of an inch long, and responsible for most of the chirping you hear inside walls. Unlike other species, they can survive and reproduce indoors year-round.
  • Field crickets are dark brown to black and slightly larger. They live outdoors but push inside through foundation gaps and door frames as temperatures cool in late summer and fall.
  • Camel crickets (also called cave crickets) are easy to recognize by their humpbacked posture and long, spider-like legs. They don’t chirp, but they’ll jump toward you when startled. Dark, damp crawlspaces and basements are their preferred habitat.

All three species are active across Eastern North Carolina and are most commonly encountered from August through October.

Why Crickets Enter Homes in Late Summer & Fall

Eastern North Carolina’s warm, humid climate supports larger cricket populations than most of the country sees. Those populations build through summer, then begin moving indoors as nighttime temperatures drop in August. Crawlspaces, garages, and basements offer the warmth and moisture crickets are after when the weather shifts.

Exterior conditions can accelerate the problem. Mulch beds pressed against the foundation, leaf litter, woodpiles stored near the structure, and white outdoor lighting all concentrate cricket activity directly at your home’s entry points. Favorable conditions along the coast persist well into fall, which is why the seasonal migration indoors can stretch through October.

What Crickets Actually Do Inside Your Home

Crickets aren’t a health threat. They don’t spread disease and aren’t aggressive. The damage they cause is physical and practical.

They chew through fabric, targeting clothing, rugs, curtains, and stored linens. Wool, cotton, silk, and synthetic fabrics are all vulnerable, particularly items soiled with perspiration. Droppings and feeding activity can contaminate pantry areas and stored paper goods. Even a single cricket in a wall void can disrupt sleep with persistent chirping, and larger populations make that problem significantly worse.

There’s also a secondary effect worth noting: cricket infestations attract spiders. Spiders follow their food source, and a home with a cricket population can start drawing them in as well.
